European Office Furniture Grows by 1.3% in 2026

After two difficult years, the European office furniture market is returning to growth. According to the IC Market Tracking Office Furniture 2026 by Interconnection Consulting, the market declined by 3.7% in 2025 to €8.97 billion, but is expected to grow by 1.3% in 2026 to €9.08 billion. The recovery reflects improving economic conditions and a shift towards more flexible, ergonomic and collaborative workplaces.

Market development differs considerably across Europe in 2026. Germany, the largest market, declines slightly by 0.6%, as economic uncertainty and rising costs continue to constrain investment, despite a shift towards collaborative and employee-focused workplaces. Romania and Poland record the strongest growth at 7.5% and 7.2%, supported by workplace modernization and investment, while Switzerland and Slovakia contract by 8.4% and 2.9%, as office consolidation, cautious corporate spending and postponed projects continue to weigh on demand.

Market concentration also varies widely across Europe. Austria is the most concentrated market, with Top 20 accounting for 79.1%, compared with 60.2% in Germany and just 34.5% in Poland. Austria is dominated by a small number of established suppliers, while Poland has a broader manufacturing base where domestic producers compete alongside international players.

Among the top players in Europe are Ahrend, Flokk, Haworth, Kinnarps, König + Neurath, Nowy Styl, Sedus, Senator International, Steelcase and Vitra, together accounting for 26.6% of the European market.

The shift is also visible at product level. In 2026, sit-stand desks are the fastest-growing product group, increasing by 6.2%, while storage grows by only 0.4%. This reflects the move away from traditional office layouts towards more flexible, ergonomic and multi-purpose workplaces, where furniture needs to adapt to different activities and working styles. For manufacturers, this is creating opportunities around adaptable solutions, while sustainability, circular design and durable materials are becoming increasingly important competitive factors.

“The recovery does not mean a return to the old office model. Companies are becoming more selective about where they invest, and each square meter of office space is expected to deliver more value than before. This is changing purchasing decisions and increasing the importance of products that support multiple uses, longer lifecycles and more efficient space utilization,” says Katarina Hornikova, author of the IC Market Tracking Office Furniture 2026.

Looking ahead, the European office furniture market is expected to continue its recovery, reaching €10.14 billion by 2029. Growth is likely to remain uneven across countries, while hybrid work, sustainability and employee wellbeing continue to reshape purchasing priorities and the way office space is designed and used.
